Posted by BrooklynBus on Tue Feb 10 20:46:21 2009, in response to Re: After 73 years, NY Daily News finally discovers BROADAWAY G station tile error, posted by Howard Fein on Tue Feb 10 10:54:52 2009. A few years ago, I noticed a similar error on the south side of Elmhurst Street Station. Apparently some time in the past the original "8" tile of 82nd Street had been damaged and was replaced by a blank white tile. The result was that the sign directed people to "2 Street". I notified them of the error and they temporarily painted an "8" that looked like it was stenciled in the tile. I think that would have been good enough but they actually manufactured a real matching "8" tile which they installed three months later. Today, it looks like it always has been there. I didn't call the news media. Here's how it used to look:(Sorry you'll have to cut and paste the link. For some reason it just won't work.) http://fmmjqg.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p4LZtMnSFF8uwI3ROckEgm2VaJeRNVdRcnVxz68_cvrQcnKnnHU2xUxGzTihzWu_OCTAroW-lEvrUUiasD_-DrQ/Elm%20003.jpg |
