I rode the first ever R160 in service, on the N, a couple years ago. It was no different from any other trip on the N today, aside from the level of foam. The announcements didn't work then, and they don't work half of the time now.I even heard the TSS remark to the T/O at Coney "The FRN's show up every time. Fucking rail nuts" The LAST trip of something is way more significant. It's something you can't ever do again. The first is just one in a million times over the years, feel free to ride at your leisure, cuz they aren't going anywhere. But be ready to say goodbye when it's on the last run, cuz you wont' get to do it again. That's why I purposely took a trip to South Ferry loop yesterday and walked around (and as a side note, I see more than ever why they need a new station -- I both had to wait for the crowds to clear before I could go upstairs...where I saw a bunch of people waiting to go back down, and 2 people got stuck in the 6th car and the C/R refused to let them walk through the cab, saying that she made plenty of announcements at Rector for them to move forward, delaying the train). Interestingly we got held north of the station so that a OOS 1 from the new station could finish crossing in front. |
