Sometime in the 1970s, the TA changed the markers on most of its lines and the AA markers were changed from R/G to G/R. In the early days of the Ta and possibly the private companies as well, light trains carried Y/Y markers and certain lines like the 1 V/C - S/F, A 207 - Leff, LL and most shuttles carried R/R. After the changes only shuttle and light trains carried R/R and some lines like the J started carrying Y/Y. Also, the concept of "terminal markers" was introduced whereby trains on a given line going to the same terminal carried the same markers regardless of their point of origin. Under the old system, for example, #1 trains from V/C to S/F carried R/R in both directions and #1 trains from 137 St carried W/R in both directions. Under the terminal marker concept, all S/B trains headed for S/F carried Y/R, trains for V/C kept the same markers N/B but trains for 137 St changed to the W/R markers. On the A Line Lefferts bound trains carried R/R in both directions and Far rock Trains carried R/Y in both directions under the old system. Under the new system, Lefferts trains carried R/G S/B and Far Rock trains carried R/Y S/B. N/B both Lefferts and Far Rock trains carried the R/G markers to 207 St. |
