Air Brakes/BIE Question |
|
Posted by gbs on Fri Oct 24 23:56:25 2008 Here's one for the mechanical experts among us:During normal operation, the more air that the operator calls for, the stronger the brake application, which means that the air is pushing on the brake shoes against the wheels. But during a BIE, the air escapes (loudly and forcefully), yet the brakes apply with maximum pressure. How can the air apply the brakes under both circumstances, which seem to be opposites, one where increasing air increases the brake pressure, and one where the absence of air increases the brake pressure? |
