In regards to the telescoping, like I posted before, several over on TO feel that the commuter loco jumped up at its rear end upon impact and overroad any anticlimber protection the coach might have had. I think a feature of the NTSB reports is listing distances traveled and it looks like the commuter loco traveled zero feet forward upon impact, if not negagtive afterwards, especially given the total weight of the two SD70ACes and the freight train behind. Going from 40 MPH or whatever speed accumulated from the station stop to zero!!! That impact is hard for me to grasp.
