Before the last of the class 101s were removed from service I used to generally get the 20.xx train back from Chester to Crewe as this used to turn one up regularly when I worked in Chester. As you no doubt know, you could sit behind the driver's compartment and watch him do his thing. Some would change gear properly and smoothly but the odd one would leave the throttle open and slam it straight from one gear to the next. That was what caused the jerk! |
