Not to spoil this incredibly bad humor, but it should have been readily apparent what the car was when you found the image on NYCsubway.org. It says "75' Test Car ex-192", so the brushes are there to show where a 75 foot car would come within a few inches of a tunnel wall.Down here in WMATA land we call it the feeler car. Car 1028 photographed by flickr.com album owner jec20721 on track 22 at Brentwood yard on 04-28-2008. The mate to 1028 (1029) was destroyed in the Federal Triangle D2 interlocking wreck on 01-13-1982. Prior to the conversion of 1028 to the feeler car, another set of cars was temporarily fitted with the clearance checking equipment. John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
