This is a dangerously utilitarian line of reasoning. One could bulldoze Grand Central Terminal on that basis if someone offered $50 billion for the property. Aesthetics and historical preservation have a place in life. Besides, how much is my LIRR fare going up because four or six M-1 cars were preserved? $0.01 a trip? Will it delay East Side Access? Will it even mean the loss of a single ticket collector on a single train? I think we're talking pocket change here as far as LIRR budgeting goes.
