the truck mounts are around the bolsteres, right?
they are most PRONE to cracks because that is where most stress, as that is where the body meets the truck.
Replace the bolsters, more specifically, the beam on which the bolsters are mounted, and another 40 years of smoothness.
Expanding windows is difficult, but doable, i don't know how much rigidity the M1s get from the side upper body, but it can be compensated for by placing rigid beams where necessary to gain the rigidity.
I never did like the small windows however. that is why i like older cars...BIG non-tinted windows. New cars have bigger, but more tinted windows.
I HATE tinted windows.
