Except that it operated its trains in a network that included city-financed lines. So the BMT enjoyed a city infrastructure subsidy. Its profit in 1940 was very small, even counting the value f that.

The BMT sold out in 1940, before the suburban boom. There is zero chance the BMT could have continued making money after WWII.
