'the countries which have the richest people, also have the least poverty.'

That is broadly true, but there are many exceptions, because distribution of wealth varies considerably. The USA has probably the largest number of very rich people in the world but it also has a great deal of abject poverty of near-Third World severity. India, has much grinding poverty but has a large and growing affluent class. New Zealand, by contrast, is not very affluent by First World standards, much less affluent than its neighbour Australia, but NZ has rather little poverty. Some European countries, especially in Scandinavia, are relatively egalitarian and have little dire poverty, though they are overall less prosperous than the USA.
