Posted by FYBklyn1959 on Sat Nov 17 15:41:41 2007, in response to Re: Not-so old school: Rail pics from the 90s, posted by FYBklyn1959 on Sat Nov 17 15:31:58 2007. Looks like a 2-car train, but is actually 2 single LRVs, parked very close together, outside of the Curtis Green light rail center in April 1997. (Curtis Green was a Muni general manager in the 70s). LRVs are on San Jose Ave, just north of Geneva Ave Mapquest map of location The old and the new: Boeing Vertol 1215 on the left, fairly new Breda 1419 on the right, at the Balboa Park station terminus of the J-Church and K-Ingleside lines, right outside the Green light rail center. Shortly after I took this pic, I rode on 1419 up to Church and Market Sts, the first Breda LRV I ever rode. (the M-Ocean View also serves this location, but it comes north on San Jose, stops a few yards short of Geneva, fumigates, then turns into lower Geneva yard (where much of the Muni historic fleet used on the F-Market & Wharves is stored). Layover is taken in the yard, then the car exits onto Geneva, goes a few yards on Geneva to San Jose, then turns south on San Jose to start the route. The K and M lines meet again at St. Francis circle ( I have a pic of two Boeings at that location taken in June 1996, but I don't seem to have uploaded it to Photbucket yet, I'll try and do that later on). A closer view of 1419, taken at the same time as the previous pic. |
