It's the SMEE-style valve shaft that makes it tighter. Those consoles were designed as desks, where there is nothing underneath, and your legs have unlimited freedom to move around. Now, you have to straddle this underneath addition that goes to the floor. I see from the picture someone posted; that the panels were not even the same now used, so perhaps it didn't stick out into yout chest as much back then as well. If they were to rebuild them with 142/3 controller technology, then that could be removed. |
