Japan (even in the Tokyo Metro)Aside from the high speed lines, there are only two lines that use AC catenary in Greater Tokyo and they are 30km north of Tokyo (They are sort of the "New Haven" lines of Tokyo). Every other line uses DC catenary. That includes some sleeper/night train DC only EMUs that run overnight to the West (see below).
