Yes, and Metro North has also been lucky enough to benefit from the LIRR's mistakes, as the LIRR was usually first. Metro North was not getting new engines or equipment when the LIRR was, so the MTA didn't make the same mistake with MN when their turn came. And believe it or not, Metro North's rolling stock in the 80's was WAY WAY worse than the LIRR's. SO Metro North got all the trains, while the LIRR kept it's old "not as bad" stuff. Billions had to be pumped into Metro north in the 1980's, which the LIRR didn't need. That's why when the 1990's rolled around, MN looked shiney and new, and the LIRR had turned into a basket case. |
