And that "skepticism" (how many isd many - I don't think you've done a poll) is a little misplaced, bvecause SI residents are getting a nice new station at South Ferry that they are going to use, paid for with the same money that pays for FTC. So if I were you, I wouldn't complain so much. After all, legally they can't spend that money in Staten Island itself. But let's get real: If MTA announced it wanted to not only restore somne train service along the North Shore, but add rail service of some type (new line using subway equipment, or even LRT), in Staten Island, let's say perhaps a cross-Island line connecting North and South Shore and serving various neighborhoods - what would the reaction be? Would Molinari support it? Would neighborhood opinion leaders support it? Or would we see a lot of NIMBY whining and "over my dead body are you going to put a train here" kind of protest? I think SI has not had the kind of investment it should have in mass transit, but it's also my perception (and I'm willing to be wrong) that there are also a lot of hypocrites on the Island on this subject. |
