Ah yes, that's what I thought. The third rail came down from the Rockaway line in Glendale, and ran to Fresh Pond Yard for the freight. So the Montauk Line used to be electrified from where the Montauk line crosses the Rockaway Line (Glendale Cut Off) to Fresh Pond. Interesting, that they never ran it through to Jamaica through Richmond Hill.Of course, Catenary electrification was also in the area, as the Bay Ridge Line was completely electrified with Catenary from Bay Ridge, through Fresh Pond, and to Hell Gate. ....amazing the foresight they had....but then just let all those improvements go to the wayside. |
