That embankment was built when they grade eliminated the area around Richmond Hill. Of course originally, Richmond Hill was called Clarenceville.Here's a photo from the 1910's. I believe it was grade eliminated in the early 1920's. Richmond Hill always had the most substantial station on the line. Haberman and Penny Bridge never had anything more than a simple station shed. Fresh Pond, Maspeth, and Glendale had simple shed-like station houses, at least small buildings. Richmond Hill had a "real station", the one below: |
