I'm sorry to hear that. That program is very useful.

MTA is not required to have EMTs in the station, and having EMTs in subway stations are not "standard of care," so there is no legal liability for not having them. But they do speed up removal of sick passengers and also speed up the arrival of trained people who know CPR and have a defibrillator.

I have personally intervened several times to assist a stricken passenger, and the goal was to stabilize the patient quickly and get him/her out of the subway as soon as possible. We turned what could have been hour-long waits into a ten-minute scoop and run, which got the trains rolling a lot faster.

This is just a proposal at this point, not enacted. I hope MTA reconsiders.
