Pay rates for NYC police are a SHAM. It is in the best interest of the citizens to insure that cops are well paid. Competition for jobs will insure QUALITY. A tiny department upstate just announced an opening for an officer at the bottom pay tier for their department at a wage of $39,000/year. This is a fair amount for a small moderate income village. New York City cops should START at $50,000/yr to achieve parity with this village, taking cost of living into account. AIUI, new NYPD academy graduates make less than $25,000/yr. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. |
