There's nothing inherently wromng with what you did.New York state law requires police officers to supply you with their names and shield numbers during any official encounter. You should be told which precinct or district they serve and the stationhouse's address and direct phone line (of course, once you know which precinct or district it is, you can easily look up the address, phone, name of commanding officer and so on. |
