An interestin aspect of train order signals is that they have no retaining circuits. This means that if the controlling tower throws the train order signal while a train is passing it, the train will be tripped on other than an operating car. The reason for that is that, should an emergency occur which requires all service entering the area to be stopped immediately, there will be less likelihood of a passenger train being sent into an area where it would be dangerous such as a smoke condition. |
