The ENTIRE R32 fleet was built by The Budd Company. There are no "fake" 32s. However, when their General overhauls came in the late 80's, ten cars were sent to GE in Buffalo instead of Morrison Knudsen. those ten are the R 32 GEs. When the cars came back, they were split into three groups, Phase 1, phase 2 and GE R32 Phase 1-(re-built by Morrison Knudsen) have WABCO Air Brake packages, GE Master Controllers (Throttle) and Thermo King HVAC units R32 Phase 2- (also re-built by Morrison Knudsen) have NY Air Brake equipment, Westinghouse Master Controllers and Stone Safety HVAC units. (phase 1 and phase 2 sets now compise mixed 32 and 32A making the old name moot.) and now to give you nightmares ![]() |
