Jamaica was in trouble already before the el came down, but it didn't need to be completely plunged into decline by taking it's foot traffic away. The el certainly didn't help the situation, it made a bad situation even worse.But that being said, Broadway was also a healthy shopping district too back in the day, perhaps not to the extent of Jamaica of course, but a healthy drag just the same, and it fell all on it's own, while the trains continued to rumble overhead. |
