True, the locals between Jamaica and Flatbush ran at subway headways and only cost 10 cents (competitive with the other rapid transit systems). Before the extension of the BRT lines along Jamaica and Liberty Aves the LIRR was the only rail link for these neighborhoods in Queens. The nickel subway routes probably ate away at patronage and it was probably obsolete and uneeded by 1939.
