I beleive the Boeing LRV was spec'd out by UMTA. Boeing Vertol won the contract to build them. The guys who had all the tribal knowledge for streetcar type cars were already retired or in the great beyond. St. Louis and Pullman-Standard were already in trouble headed to be finished off by the R44/46 debacle. I'd have to look at my historical records on why Budd didn't/wouldn't build them.

Boeing Aircraft and Boeing Defense had little to do with the LRV.

Boeing had its hands full in the early to mid 70's trying to keep the B747 in service - there were alot of teething problems with that bird. We were kept busy with until the late 90's when the -100/-200 series became impractical or too expensive to keep flying anymore.
