What was really interesting was the fact that while Kawasaki got the contract, the final assembly was done at Boeing-Vertal in south Philly, who built the Boeing LRVs for Boston and SF.

The K-cars are so successful because the control equipment is the same as the MBTA Type 7s and the TTC's CLRV's. In fact, when Kawasaki shipped 9000 to SEPTA, they had TTC people to assist them with getting the bugs out of both 9000 and 100, the only two cars built in the Yogo Works of Kawasaki. The only thing wrong with both the Type 7's and the K-cars is neither has the TTC mechanical lock on the brake pedal so the operator can take their feet off the pedals at a traffic light. On the K-cars and the Type 7s, you can't without the car going into emergency.
