In a sense, the IRT got a large number of cars that were cut from the same cloth as the R-16. I'm referring to the R-17s through 22s which despite the minor cosmetic differences of the R-21s and 22s were basically the same car that was designed in 1964. Electrically and mechanically, the IRT's versions of the R-16 were identical yet it seems that the IRT's cars performed much better in sevice that their BMT/IND counterparts.
