.....flickering lights on them, even though that was a standard occurence on all pre-GOH laht and stainless steel/carbon steel mixed cars. To me, I felt like once the lights would start flickering they would go out and not come back on.

That's one of the things that made them so cool. I like them best on the R-36WF's on the (7).
