When the MTA did 51st Street, I think that was the idea, except they also kept the tile band at top too. I like 51st Street, it was done when the MTA realized the mosaics shouldn't be covered, yet they should renovate ths station. Eventually, they figured out how to put regular tile over the old white tiles (like they do now), instead of having to put brick tile up. 51st Street is a precursor to how they restore/renovate now. |
