I honestly don't know of any side-contact third rail systems, so if anyone knows of an example I'd be happy to hear about it.The class 504 EMUs that operated the Manchester-Bury line in the UK were side-contact units. They are long gone - replaced by Metrolink trams - but you can make out the side-collection apparatus if you click on this photo to enlarge it to 100%: |
