The primary drawback of a dual mode catenary/diesel locomotive other than its immense weight and low power would be that it had a time-limited transformer and electric propulsion package. Stop one of these dual modes at the bottom of the East River tubes and you very well could have its traction package cut out from temperature or it would quite literally die in a fire before reaching the far portal. |
