I am in no way endorsing this position, merely restating some fears that were recently aired by some in the media. I for one would be terrified of such a prospect, which would indeed raise the threat of civil war. But we are really a pretty divided nation as it is. If we continue to be so intolerant of one another (the 'red' states versus the 'blue' states; among other factions), we may indeed begin the proverbial slide down the slippery slope.
