To allow people to exit more quickly and reduce congestion on the platform. The station is a terminal station. The area around the station is primarily low to medium density residential. Having huge stations to accommodate more passengers but designing them with limited access and egress seems contradictory to me. Glenmont is by no means a 'huge station'. The open columnless design of the station gives the illusion of a large space. As I recall the platform is less the 30' (9.1m) wide John in the sand box of Maryland's eastern shore. |
