The ONLY reason the LIRR allowed that bizarre service to last as long as it did is because there was a stipulation in the LIRR's original charter from the 1800's that passenger service HAD to run on the line, otherwise the ROW would revert back to the original adjoining landowners.Somehow they were able to loophole it somehow that they can now just leave it on the one round trip LIC express that still uses the line in revenue service (as opposed to the one local in each direction rush hours, and the one express in each direction). Otherwise they probably wouldn't even run the express one through there to this day. |
