But that would be an LRT expansion, not a heavy rail expansion. If they expanded the Red, Yellow, or Blue lines then that'd certainly qualify as a heavy rail expansion. The big problem in my humble opinion with the MBTA and their planners is that for some reason they seem to regard commuter rail ROWs as a route for their heavy rail system to be expanded to the detriment of commuter rail services. The Blue Line to Lynn sounds like it's still quite possible, but I don't understand why they cannot electrify the commuter line parallel to it and run EMUs on a frequent schedule. The electrification would have applications beyond the mere moving of passengers from Lynn into Downtown Boston, and it'd begin to set up for a North-South station connector tunnel.
