Maintenance. Fewer yard train operators should be needed too. Cuts and adds on 5 car units compared to single cars, or married pairs( 2 cars) should reduce labor and save money. A disadvantage is if one car on a 5 car unit(also referred to as a five car family) needs to be taken out of service, the other four cars do as well. |
