If the T/O had to leave the cab to investigate, he would either have had to leave the operating key inserted in the operating position or if not needed the T/O would have taken it. We old time MOTORMEN on SMEE equipment would sometimes have to leave the reverser thrown but would place the brake valve in charge topside down and take the brake handle with us. It was even easier on prewar equipment since after “topsiding" the brake valve we could take the brake handle, reverser and brake plug with us. |
