Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Wed Jan 15 07:35:38 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for January 15 1916 – from The Book of First Runs The BRT Fourth Avenue (Brooklyn) Line is extended from 59th Street to 86th Street. 1953 – from The Book of Wrecks Pennsylvania Railroad train No. 173 “The Federal Express”, headed up by GG-1 4876 fails to stop on Track 16 and crashes into the main waiting room at Union Station in Washington, DC. The weight of the engine is so great that it collapses into the floor below. Forty three people are injured. The GG-1 is cut into three pieces and sent to Altoona, Pennsylvania for rebuilding. It was later put back into service and now resides at the B&O Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. 1956 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of streetcar service in Dallas, Texas. Note: Light rail service returned to Dallas on June 14, 1996 with the opening of the DART light rail line. 2010 – from The Book of Last Runs New Jersey Transit closes the Great Notch station on the Montclair-Boonton Line.
