Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Thu Jan 9 07:19:07 2025 Tuscarora Almanac for January 9 1879 – from The Book of First Runs The 6th Avenue El begins a shuttle service along 53rd Street between 59th Street Station on the 9th Avenue EL and 50th Street Station on the 6th Avenue El. A new station is opened on 53rd Street called "8th Avenue - 53rd Street". Through service begins a month later on February 25. 1908 – from The Book of First Runs The IRT Lexington Avenue Line is extended under the East River through the Joralemon Street Tunnels to Brooklyn. A new station is opened at Borough Hall. 1952 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of streetcar service in Reading, PA. 1978 – from The Book of First Runs Three free transfer points opened today. The first connects the Pacific Street Station of the BMT 4th Avenue Line with the IRT and BMT Atlantic Avenue Stations. The second connects the 14th Street - 7th Avenue Station of the IRT Broadway-7th Avenue Line with the BMT and IND Stations at 14th Street and 6th Avenue. The third connects the Canal Street Station of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line with the three BMT Canal Street Stations. 2022 – from The Book of Last Runs This will be the last day in service for the R-32 subway cars. They will make four round trips between Brighton Beach, Brooklyn and 96th Street-2nd Avenue, Manhattan. The cars had been out of regular service for some time. The Transit Museum decided to give them a proper sendoff. On the three previous Sundays, December 19 & 26, 2021 and January 2, 2022 the cars ran in special service between 2nd Avenue and 145th Street. Sunday, January 9 would see their final runs. The last consist was (n) 3360-3361-3841-3840-3647-3646-3895-3894.
