The multi-level Secaucus Junction station is now fully in operation I visited the station for the first time during the fare holiday. Questions: 1. Why are there fare gates for the upper-level trains but not the lower level? Don't the conductors check tickets on all trains, both upper and lower? The upper-level trains all come from or go directly to Penn Station-NY, and there are no fare gates there, so why in Secaucus? 2. Why are the upper platforms labeled so strangely: tracks A, B, 2, 3? The lower level is straight-forward: E,F,G,H. What happened to A,B,C,D? 3. Why are the platforms configured differently on each level? The lower level has a standard 4-track, 2-island configuration, but the upper has 4 tracks with one center island and two side platforms (like Atlantic Av (2,3,4,5)? Are there many cross-platform transfers done on the upper level but not the lower? |
