With licking the terminals, you don't generate a current that can pass through your heart.I would assume the recipe for getting killed by a 9 volt battery works like this: 1. Have an extremely weak heart. 2. Put your left arm all the way into a barrel full of water. Maybe cover it with salt first just to help with the conductivity. 3. Put your right arm into another barrel. 4. Connect the two barrels of water: length of bare wire dipped into each barrel, each wire soldered extremely well onto separate battery terminals, intervening on/off switch temporarily set to the off position while you set everything up. 5. Turn the switch to the on position. Let me just say that even without having qualification #1, I'm not about to volunteer for the experiment. What guards you from electrocution is usually that the surface of your body has a lot of resistance, and/or that the current from the two places you touch doesn't pass through your heart. Maybe 10 years ago there was a newspaper report about a teenager who had just gotten out of the shower, and her wet foot stepped on a frayed electric cord while her wet hand touched a radiator. That ended in tragedy. |
