Re: Tuscarora Almanac for November 22

I attended John Dewey HS for the 1974-75 school year. As some of you know, JDHS is adjacent to Coney Island Yard, as well as the West End and Sea Beach lines (great school for a subway fan. I always hoped I would be in an odd-numbered room, which were on the perimeter of the school, you'd always have a view of either the West End, the Sea Beach, the yard, or even the yard lead from the west end. Even-numbered rooms, you only see a boring-ass courtyard 😐) At the south end, there were 8 layup tracks (not sure if this was STillwell Yard, or something else. 2 tracks each for the four lines that served Stillwell (Brighton, Culver, Sea Beach and West End) and they were arranged in the same order as the terminal (E-W, Sea Beach, Brighton, Culver and West End) I would go out during a free period to check out the trains (midday, when all the rush hour extras were in) and every once in awhile, an Arnine would be on one of the tracks allocated to the F. Actually, there was a pretty good variety: Arnines, R-38, R-40 (Slant only, the Modifieds generally only worked the EE or GG, although I'm sure they would occasionally pop up on the F), also every once in awhile R-44 (R-46 weren't really in service yet). Never saw an R-16, again they were mainly on the EE or GG, but I'm sure they may have turned up on the F once in awhile.
