The housing complexes built in the path of the S 4th St route were merely replacements for the older buildings that were already there. Had the impetus to build S 4th St been there, the city would have had to demolish the buildings and through route S 4th St the way it did 6th Ave between 3rd St and Canal St in Manhattan and Pitkin Ave with Old South Rd at the Bkln/Qns border. |
