I found out that on most R-1/9s, the bulb sockets for the upper side destination signs are secured to the carbody, but on some cars, they were mounted on a bracket that was in turn attached to the sign box. They had such a sign box at the former sign shop at Shoreline; I saw it back in 1980 when I bought my sign box there. Mine, however, doesn't have the upper side sign bulb bracket. I saw one for sale on ebay a number of years ago, but the seller was only offering local pickup - from NYC. |
