R-1/9 bulbs were not reverse threaded.Unlike the IRT and BMT prewar cars which had their lights in several groups of 5 120V bulbs in series, R-1/9s had all 30 bulbs in the cars in one single 600V series circuit so each bulb was only 30V. Putting a bulb like that in a 120V household lamp would burn it out instantly. |
