Great pictures Jersey Mike and it brought back some distant memories. Way back in the early 50's, Hunterspoint Avenue was very close to our elementary school PS1. Very often during lunch time we would cross Jackson Avenue, hang around the rail yards and sometimes be tempted to see if we (five of us usually) could shimmy down to the entrance of the Midtown Tunnel and enter it. Crazy but not that crazy, we once hopped a RR car that was stationary by itself away from other cars. We did this often and sometimes has to make up an excuse why we were late for our 1:00 class. I remember Mrs Bonardi being very understanding even though she kept threatening to send us to the office for discipline. We loved her. I couldn't say the name for Mrs Barriere (sic) who disliked us and me especially, the feeling being very mutual---the only teacher this future teacher actually disliked during his years of schooling. Funny how those pictures brought back memories that I had long forgotten. |
