I recall riding standard body IRT cars on the Polo Grounds Shuttle in the early 1950s and they were probably Hi-Vs since the first time I recall seeing a controller handle other than the brass Hi-V style was on a Lex Exp when I was about 10. One night when coming home across the 155 St viaduct around 1955, I remember looking out of either a bus window or my father’s car window and seeing a Gibbs in the 155 St station (I was able to tell a Gibbs from a standard IRT cars by the lack of a RFW).
