The very first “Zephyr” is placed in regular service between Kansas City, Kansas and Lincoln, Nebraska. It is a three section articulated train built of stainless steel.

Iselin, New Jersey
New Jersey Department of Transportation / Penn Central Transportation Company

Metropark Station, located in Iselin, New Jersey opens for service. The station was built with funds provided by the New Jersey and United States Departments of Transportation.
It is located between Colonia and Iselin Stations on the Penn Central New Jersey Division Mainline. (today’s Northeast Corridor Line)

I have conflicting dates for the last steam run on the Pennsylvania Railroad so I am posting both entries. Perhaps someone can provide me with the proper date.

Altoona, Pennsylvania
Pennyslvania Railroad

The last steam run on the Pennsylvania Railroad was made by I-1 Class locomotive hauling fifty hoppers from Cresson to Altoona, Pennsylvania. The I-1’s were massive 2-10-0 Decapods built at the Juaniata Shops between 1916 and 1919.
