That was because the B of T officials felt that when 2 Q units were coupled together the weight of 2 sets of 2 motor trucks in a small area would be too heavy for the Manhattan el structure. The easy way was to replace the Qs' trucks with the maximum traction (single motor) trucks from the Composites then being scrapped. The problem could have been solved just as easily by moving the motor trucks of the Qs to the #2 ends of the A and C sections which would have prevent kept the rucks within the unit slightly more than a car length apart mitigating the weight problem without diminishing their pulling capability. |
